Leadership Pain Points
What no one tells you about leadership:
The real work isn’t always where the pain shows up…
I’ve been dealing with some neck pain, so I’ve been working with a physical therapist. Some of the treatment is uncomfortable. Suction cupping. Acupressure. Stretching.
But here’s what surprised me:
Fixing my neck doesn’t mean only working on my neck. We work on my shoulders, my back, and everything around it. Because the source of the pain isn’t always where you feel it.
Leadership works the same way.
When a person, team, or organization is struggling, we think we are leading by asking “How do we make this more comfortable?”
What we should be asking of our team is “What is contributing to this, and are we willing to do the work?”
The expectations that aren’t clear. The behavior no one has addressed. The process that’s creating friction.
Making things better means doing things that are not comfortable...
Letting go of what we hoped would work.
People can adapt around a problem for a long time without ever realizing what’s underneath it.
Good leadership isn’t about making things more comfortable. It’s about having the courage to ask, “What else needs to change?”
That’s where real leadership begins.
You already know you are capable of more...
The question is: what’s holding you back?
